To the Philippines! July 2016
I’m once again making a trip to the Philippines on behalf of our diocese and our partnership with the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Philippines (EDSP). I’ll be accompanied on this trip by The Rev. Jaime Case, Rector of St. Luke’s ~ San Lucas in Vancouver, WA.
We will spend a couple of days in Manila and hope to have a chance to meet with the Prime Bishop. From Manila we travel to EDSP in Cotabato City, Mindanao and meet with the Bishop and diocesan staff and visit the Tree Farm in Upi that is a partnership project of our two diocese (www.edsp-edo.org).
I will also work with the diocesan staff on their website (www.edspphilippines.com). Thanks to generous donations from folks at St. Mary’s, Lakewood, St. Luke’s ~ San Lucas, Vancouver, and St. Christopher’s, Olympia, we have raised money for a new computer for the EDSP staff office.
After our EDSP visit, Fr. Jaime will travel to Luzon and visit the areas where his parents worked as Missionaries, and where he grew up.
I will travel to the Diocese of Davao (EDD) in Davao City (www.eddphilippines.com). From Davao, I plan to travel to Zamboanga and visit Holy Trinity Episcopal Church (one of the first Episcopal congregations in the Philippines, 1904). From Zamboanga to Tacloban, Leyte to visit the E-CARE project sites, particularly the Sabang Bao housing project (I visited in 2015 – http://lovelady.org/philippines-trip-march-2015). The housing project is complete and the residents have organized a new church – Church of the Resurrection – where I’ll be preaching on Aug 4th.
From Tacloban back to Manila; meet up with Fr. Jamie; a courtesy call on the Prime Bishop and then home.
Thank you for your encouragement and support for this project, contact me if you have questions or would like additional information. My travel journals and photos from my three trips to the Philippines are through the link “Ed’s Asian Travels” above. Below is a map showing my several destinations.
